mwewSinjar (mwfain arabo ﺳﻨﺠﺎﺭ‎mwfq?), nota anche con il nome arabo mwfgShingalcite-ref-2[2] (mwgwin curdo Şingal o Şengal‎; in mwhalingua farsi شنگاﺭ شنگالcite-ref-3[3]cite-ref-4[4]cite-ref-5[5]cite-ref-abul-6-0[6], in mwlqlingua greca antica ed in mwlglatino mwlwmwmaSingara), è una piccola città nell'mwmqIraq nord-occidentale, vicina al confine con la mwmgSiria. La città è capoluogo dell'omonimo distretto, compreso nel mwmwgovernatorato di Ninive.

Geografia fisica

Il censimento del 2006 ha rilevato 39.875 residenti.cite-ref-template-divisione-amministrativa-abitanti-1-1[1] La popolazione è etnicamente varia, con due gruppi predominanti, gli mwowyazidi e i mwpacurdi musulmani.

L'area del distretto di Sinjar è prevalentemente montuosa ed è pertanto denominata spesso nella sua interezza come "mwpgmonte Sinjar".

Storia

Durante l'mwqgImpero romano la città di mwqwmwraSingara fu un'importante mwrqfortezza legionaria al confine romano-persiano e fu molte volte conquistata durante le mwrgguerre romano-persiane. Dal mwrw197 fu sede della legione mwsaI Parthica. Nel mwsg241 fu conquistata dai mwswSasanidi di mwtaSapore I, ma venne poi riconquistata dall'mwtqimperatore romano mwtgGordiano III (mwtw243). Nel mwua348 fu luogo della mwuqbattaglia di Singara che vide la vittoria dell'mwugesercito romano dell'imperatore mwuwCostanzo II su quello mwvasasanide del re mwvqSapore II; lo stesso re, però, la riconquistò nel mwvg360.

Guerra civile in Iraq

Durante la mwwgGuerra civile in Iraq l'area intorno alla catena montuosa mwwwJebel Sinjar è teatro di violenti scontri tra mwxaISIS e le minoranze etniche presenti nell'area, in particolare quella dei mwxqcurdi mwxgyazidi subisce un vero e proprio mwxwgenocidio. Gli uomini e le anziane sono trucidati in massa, mentre donne e bambine diventano schiave sessuali dei miliziani ed i minori sono arruolati come mwyabambini soldato. La città, dopo diversi tentativi falliti, fu riconquistata dalle forze mwyqpeshmerga il 13 novembre 2015 e in seguito a ciò fu teatro di violente rappresaglie mwygyazide contro i musulmani sunniti residenti.cite-ref-7[7]cite-ref-8[8]

Nel 2018 un'attivista yazida, mwbaNadia Murad (nata a Kocho, nel distretto di Sinjar), ha vinto il mwbgPremio Nobel per la pace dopo essere stata rapita e resa schiava sessuale dai miliziani dello mwbwStato Islamico.
